Collingwood has selected 23-year-old midfielder Roan Steele with Pick 8 in the 2025 Mid-Season Rookie Draft.
Averaging 21.1 disposals a game for West Perth in the WAFL across 2025, Steele is originally from Frankston and previously played for Casey in the VFL from 2022 to 2024.
After being overlooked for Coates Talent League/NAB League sides, Steele's selection by the Pies is a story of hard work and persistence.
Steele has kicked five goals from his seven WAFL matches in 2025.
National Recruitment Manager Shane O'Bree said the Pies were seeking players that could make an instant impact upon arrival.
"Roan's someone we've followed for a while," O'Bree said following the draft.
"His running capabilities, his GPS data is through the roof. He's a player we think can play multiple positions.
"When he starts training and getting familiar with our systems and our program ... we can see Roan hopefully pushing for AFL selection."
